The Longest Try is an endurance event like no other. It will combine the sports of Ultra Running and Rugby League to help fundraise for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, Miracle Babies Foundation of Australia and Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia.
Crossing 3 states of Australia, Robbie Dolan, an amateur Rugby League player turned Ultra Marathon runner, will attempt a World's first crossing 1,800km from Melbourne to Brisbane during the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Read on to learn more about Robbie's motivation for embarking on this incredible adventure and how Runderwear™ will be supporting his journey.
‘The Longest Try’ has been in production for at least the last 5 years. I began running because I was unable to play Rugby League on a consistent basis as I’d moved to Milton Keynes for work. The hours were weekends and evening shifts so training and playing became more and more difficult. Running I could do on my own, without a fixed time and without feeling most of my body bruised or aching post-match. In 2011, I ran my first 33-mile ultra-marathon. A new mind-set and outlook was being created about what could be achieved away from the work place.
Running became a great way to visit friends and family through booking races in different places, away from the obvious health benefits keeping active does for you. This continues to be one of the major motivations. The Longest Try was organised because my immediate family is so spread out, with two brothers in Sydney and parents in York, this could be a great way of getting people together.
Over the last 6 years, I’ve run over 40 marathons and ultra-marathons all over the UK. I understand how the simplest of matters can cause the biggest problems and chafing is usually expected with endurance running. Over the 42 days I hope it’ll take me to run from Melbourne to Brisbane, I will be using Runderwear to alleviate the very basic issues of running to keep me chafe-free during the ever-increasing temperatures of Australia’s late Spring into early Summer."
